Farm-PREP, a Farm P-Reduction Planner
Stone has developed an easy-to-use, web-based Farm P-Reduction Planner application (Farm-PREP) for simulating possible reductions of phosphorus farm field runoff by analyzing alternative conservation practices applied across individual farms to help farmers and crop management consultants find targeted solutions related to their farm fields and cropping practices. FarmPREP incorporates USDA NRCS’ Agricultural Policy/Environmental Extender (APEX) model to help choose the applicability and effectiveness of a range of farm-scale nutrient management and conservation plans.
Farm-PREP was funded (in part) by an agreement awarded by the Environmental Protection Agency to the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission in partnership with the Lake Champlain Basin Program. NEIWPCC manages LCBP’s personnel, contract, grant, and budget tasks and provides input on the program’s activities through a partnership with the LCBP Steering Committee.
