Pine Mill Dam Removal and River Channel Restoration

Stone was hired by the Connecticut River Conservancy to lead the engineering and design for removing the Pine Mill Dam on Clark Brook in Haverhill, New Hampshire. This concrete gravity dam, built around 1928 and originally used to power a nearby grist mill, had become a source of problems. Over the years, it deteriorated, leading to foundation undermining, exacerbated flooding during heavy flows, and significant sediment accumulation. These issues not only threatened nearby structures but also obstructed aquatic life movement, particularly affecting the eastern brook trout.

Cold Brook Dam Removal

Following the development of 30% design plans by Gabe Bolin while at Trout Unlimited in 2017, Stone Environmental was hired by the Connecticut River Conservancy to complete dam removal design and provide permitting support for the removal of a small dam located on Cold Brook in the Town of Wilmington, Vermont.

Messer Pond Upper County Road Brook Sub-Watershed Investigation and Best Management Practices

In 2018, the Messer Pond Protective Association (MPPA) hired Stone Environmental to investigate and develop stormwater management Best Management Practices (BMPs) to mitigate nonpoint source nutrient and sediment loading conveyed to Messer Pond.

Chestnut Hill Stormwater Mitigation and Channel Restoration Design

In 2018, Stone worked with the City of Montpelier and Friends of the Winooski River to assess the 42-acre drainage area and develop design plans for stormwater mitigation, proper culvert sizing, and improved stability and resilience of the downstream drainage channel, while maximizing the use of green infrastructure practices.

Stone's Branden Martin, PE was recently honored with the Young Engineer of the Year Award at the Engineer's Week Banquet, an annual event organized by the state’s engineering societies, on Friday, February 21, 2020 in Burlington, Vermont.
