Catamount Arts Project Wins Engineering Excellence Award

Jun 17, 2025

L to R: Stone Employee-Owners Katrina Mattice, PE, Rudy Bentlage, Jacob Vincent, Laura Rajnak, David Jensen, Rebecca Treat, P.G., and Daniel Voisin at the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards on June 10 at Champlain College.

We’re honored to share that our team was an award winner at the 2025 American Council of Engineering Companies-Vermont Engineering Excellence Awards for our work on the Catamount Arts Vapor Intrusion Mitigation System in St. Johnsbury, Vermont!

Catamount Arts—a cornerstone of community life in northeastern Vermont—was temporarily shuttered from its building in 2023 after elevated levels of contaminants were detected in indoor air, creating major disruptions for local artists, staff, and the public. Stone worked with Catamount Arts and local agencies to quickly assess, design, and install a targeted vapor intrusion mitigation system that reduced indoor air contamination by more than 99%, allowing the building to reopen.

Through smart engineering and collaboration, Stone was able to leverage public resources to provide a vital community organization with an efficient, long-term solution to this environmental challenge.

A big thank you to Catamount Arts, our agency partners (including the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation and the Agency of Commerce and Community Development), and the dedicated team that made this possible.
