Johnsons Mill Dam Removal Study Concludes
Hydrologist Meghan Arpino, PH, speaks with project stakeholders and members of the dam removal community onsite during the second year of monitoring.
We’re grateful to be part of the Johnsons Mill Dam removal project along the Bogue Branch River in Bakersfield, Vermont—from feasibility and aquatic organism passage assessment through design, implementation, post-removal monitoring, and future adaptive management of the site.
During the past four years, our team collaborated with the Franklin County Natural Resources Conservation District and project partners to monitor the river’s response to the dam removal. Examining sediment transport, channel evolution, and habitat recovery at the Johnsons Mill site has improved our understanding of the impact of dam removal and river restoration projects. The study has now concluded, but our scientists and engineers are excited to apply what was learned in the next phase of restoration work at the site
