June 4 Presentation Highlights Importance of Planning in Historic Redevelopment
Senior Planner Annemarie Fortune will join a multidisciplinary panel at the Downtown and Historic Preservation Conference on June 4, 2026, in St. Albans, Vermont, to explore the role of planning in historic redevelopment.
“Ground Truthing Before Breaking Ground: A Step-by-Step Pathway for Navigating Pre-development in Historic Reuse Projects,” brings together perspectives across community development, environmental planning, funding, and regulatory coordination to highlight how proactive early action and coordinated decision-making can help communities navigate projects that rely on federal funding.
Using a redevelopment project in Snowsville, Vermont, as a case study, the panel will share practical strategies for identifying and addressing early project considerations—from wastewater constraints and site contamination to funding requirements and building a shared community vision. Panelists include Nicole Gratton of the Preservation Trust of Vermont, Kaziah Haviland of the Vermont Council for Rural Development, Grace Vinson of the Agency of Commerce and Community Development, and Jackson Evans of the Snowsville Community Trust.
