Michael Smith Senior Hydrogeologist
Michael is a senior hydrogeologist with close to 40 years of relevant experience. Prior to joining Stone, Mike spent 30+ years with the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, working mainly with the VT DEC Waste Management Prevention Division Sites Management Section (SMS), where he played a key role in the development and subsequent revisions of the Groundwater Protection Rule and Strategy, and researched and introduced new environmental site characterization and remedial techniques to SMS. Recently, he has also been helping the VT DEC address the emerging contaminants PFAS and 1,4-Dioxane. Over the past two decades, Mike has played a prominent role with the Interstate Technology Regulatory Council and has made key contributions to guidance related to on-site characterization, DNAPL site strategies, and remediation and PFAS contamination.
